Gary Mills lamented Corby Town’s poor defending as their Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division campaign took yet another turn for the worse.
The rock-bottom Steelmen were beaten 4-1 by leaders Rushall Olympic in a re-arranged clash at Steel Park.
It has left Corby already looking doomed to the drop as they are now a huge 12 points from safety with just over half of the league season remaining.
This game represented a third league defeat in a row and the Steelmen’s sixth loss in seven since Mills took charge.
Corby fans are already becoming restless with the new manager as there seems to be no light at the end of a dark tunnel, which seems to be heading towards a second relegation in as many seasons.
And Mills insists he can understand their frustration.
“The big issue we have at the moment is that we are conceding poor goals,” the Corby boss said.
“We aren’t being picked apart, we are getting the fundamentals of defending wrong and we are making basic errors that are gifting our opponents goals.
“I thought we played some good stuff at times, we had good spells of possession.
“But people don’t see that. People pick up the paper and see the scoreline because that is all that matters.
“I thought the crowd were really positive until the third and fourth goals and then they let their frustrations be known and I can understand that.
“It’s up to us to sort it out as quickly as possible. We will train on Tuesday and Thursday this week and there will be a lot of focus on our defending because it’s not been good enough.
“We will be working hard and preparing for a huge game (at home to Workington) next weekend.”
Ben Milnes marked his first start since returning from injury with Corby’s goal on the stroke of half-time while they also included Tyler Blake - a new loan signing from Mansfield Town - in their starting line-up.
Mills, meanwhile, confirmed Izale McLeod will not be returning to Steel Park following a “change in personal circumstances” while Jamie Tank and Stefan Moore both missed the Rushall game due to injury.
