Marcus Law was pleased to see Kettering Town come through their latest pre-season test at Kempston Rovers.
Goals from Rene Howe and Spencer Weir-Daley sealed a 2-0 win at the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central newcomers.
The Poppies are now preparing for a trip to Arlesey Town tomorrow (Tuesday) night.
And Law said: “It was all about getting minutes in the players again.
“We had a few niggles and injuries so we were a bit short but that only gave the youngsters another good opportunity.
“It was a good test for us against Kempston who were well organised, they have some good people over there and they are a progressive club.
“I think we probably could have stepped it up but, taking into consideration the weather conditions, I think we dealt with it all pretty well.”
Winger Wilson Carvalho, meanwhile, made his first appearance of the summer for Kettering on Saturday.
Law says Carvalho will be re-signing for the club, although he will miss the first five games of the Southern League Premier Division campaign due to a ban that is overrunning from last season.
“Wilson will be signing for us, which is good news,” he added.
“There are one or two other things that we are discussing as well and we will see how those progress over the next week or so.”
