The Steelmen put in an impressive display at Steel Park

Gary Mills has urged his Corby Town players to go and repeat the sort of display they put in last night (Wednesday) as they claimed an impressive 4-0 victory over Bedworth United at Steel Park.

Bedworth arrived having made an unbeaten start to the Southern League Division One Central campaign but the Steelmen ended that run in emphatic fashion as they made it three wins in a row in all competitions without conceding a goal.

Corby and the Yeltz have both been tipped to be right up there among the frontrunners this season.

And Mills said: “I told the players to enjoy this win but not for too long because we go again.

“This was the first of four games in 10 days so we are going to need their bodies fit and we are going to need everyone available.

“We don’t get carried away just like we didn’t when we lost here against Aylesbury.

“I am just pleased for the fans. They have seen what we are about and the players have got to go and repeat it.”

Mills described his team’s performance against Bedworth as “excellent” as they dominated for long spells.

Callum Westwood’s fine strike put them in front in the first half before a Steve Diggin double, the first of which was from the penalty spot, put them in control in the second period.

And Jordon Crawford rounded things off with his first goal of the season.

Mills added: “It’s taken a few weeks to get to where I wanted to be but Rome wasn’t built in a day, as they say.

“I have learned a few things over the weeks and there’s been a few changes with personnel and players playing in different positions and bits like that which have worked.

“The players are learning about what I want and what I demand and I thought we had all of it this time, right from the word go.

“The warm-up was great, the dressing-room was good and we came out and right from the first whistle, I thought we were excellent. Overall, maybe four flattered Bedworth a little bit.

“The movement and willingness to work hard was there tonight and everyone from the goalkeeper through did their job superbly.”
