Corby folk joined together to remember the brave on Sunday.

Mayor Julie Riley attended the Remembrance Day Parade and Service, where she laid a wreath on behalf of the people of Corby.

The parade left St Marks Road at 10.30am and headed for the War Memorial where the wreath-laying and service took place.

In addition, 90 cadets and staff from 422 (Corby) Squadron Royal Air Force Air Cadets attended the parade, organised by the Corby branch of the Royal British Legion.

The parade, led this year by 2nd Lieutenant Chris Denton of the Corby ACF, moved from 422’s Squadron Headquarters at 10:20am, making its way to the cenotaph at St John the Baptist Church in Corby Old Village.

The Rev Paul Frost, Corby Squadron’s Chaplain, led the ceremony at the cenotaph, where more than 40 wreaths were laid by those who wished to pay their respects.

This year, 422’s wreath was laid by Cadet Joseph Curry with Cadet Courtney Curry assisting the president of the Corby Royal British Legion branch lay his.

Following the church service and a march past back into the centre of the Old Village, the parade was dismissed and all were invited back to the Ex-Servicemen’s Club for a buffet and trophy presentation ceremony.

Every year a trophy is awarded to the youth organisation that raises the most money towards the Poppy Appeal. For the third year running, after raising more than £2,000 across three consecutive weekends, 422 (Corby) Squadron Royal Air Force Air Cadets were presented the Lance Corporal James Ashworth VC trophy by Kerry Ashworth; Lance Corporal James Ashworth VC’s mother.

Collecting the trophy on the squadron’s behalf were Flight Lieutenant Kev Ritchie RAFVR(T) and Cadet Corporal Natalie Bristow.

422 (Corby) Squadron were not only in Corby remembering The Fallen, Cadet Sergeant Kamila Bell, RAF Wittering Station Commander’s Cadet accompanied the Station Commander, Group Captain Richard Pratley ADC MA* MSc BA(Hons) RAF and his team in Peterborough for their Remembrance Parade and service in the Cathedral.

Sgt Bell was given the task of being the Station Commander’s Wreath Bearer, a high honour indeed.
