An education trust which runs schools in Corby and Rushden has appointed a new chairman.

Mike Hamlin will be the new chairman of the Greenwood Academies Trust, which runs Corby Primary Academy, Danesholme Infants and Juniors academies, Hazel Leys Academy, Kingswood primary and secondary academy and Rushden Primary Academy.

Mr Hamlin has been a teacher for more than 40 years, having joined the Greenwood Dale School in Nottingham almost 30 years ago and being instrumental in the creation of the Greenwood Academies Trust in 2009 where he worked up until he retired this summer.

He said: “This is a great honour. I now find myself with the time, the enthusiasm and the energy to, hopefully, make a success of this new role.

“Education is facing a number of major challenges; resources have never been tighter but by working together and building on the accumulating strengths of all of our school communities I am sure that we can face this future with confidence as we seek relentlessly to improve the life chances of all those we are

responsible.”

Four new trustees have also been appointed to the board:

Nigel Hastings, former Pro-Vice Chancellor of Nottingham Trent University.

Professor Christine Hall, head of the School of Education at the University of Nottingham.

Tim Guyler, director of Improvement and Integration at NHS Nottingham University Hospitals.

and Jane Spencer, UK and Ireland Financial Controller for Experian.
