“An 11-year-old girl had been hit by a car but it was minor injuries.

“She was taken to Kettering General Hospital as a precaution.”

An ambulance and police car remained at the scene for some time afterwards, leading to delays for drivers heading into Kettering.

Motorists faced delays elsewhere on roads in and around the town today, including problems on the A14 near Junction 7.

There were queues on the A14 westbound during the rush-hour, which led to traffic queuing on the A43 back to the Mawsley junction for motorists trying to join the A14 or cross the roundabout and head into Kettering.

People trying to avoid the delays on the A43 and turning off into Broughton may then have been caught up in problems in Pytchley following a two-vehicle crash in the High Street this morning.
