A road on the new Mayfair Holdings Ltd development of 13 new homes in Wellingborough has been named after the late Cllr Michael Prescod, who served Wellingborough’s Castle ward from 1995.

Cllr Prescod was also mayor of Wellingborough in 1998, and worked tirelessly to promote and advocate a richer quality of life for the ethnic minority communities in the town.

In 2001, Cllr Prescod was awarded the MBE in the New Year’s Honours list for services to the community.

Family and friends met on Friday at Prescod Close, which is just off Irthlingborough Road, to acknowledge the street naming.

Cllr Brian Emerson said: “I was delighted this road has been named in memory of Cllr Michael Prescod, who contributed so much to the local community, especially in terms of equality issues during his time with Wellingborough Council.

“This is a fitting tribute to him.”
