A man from Burton Latimer has been named as the victim of a fatal crash in Essex.

Emergency services were called to Tilbury at about 3.35pm on September 21 after a crash involving a blue Volkswagen Crafter van and a stationary HGV on the A1089 Dock Approach Road towards the A13.

A passenger in the van died at the scene and an Essex Police spokesman said he has been identified as 25-year-old Douglas Edgar.

They added that the van driver remains in hospital receiving treatment.

A spokesman for the force said: "The driver of the HGV was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released under investigation while we carry out further enquiries.

"Any drivers who were in the area at the time and have dash cam footage of the incident or saw what happened are asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101 or email [email protected], quoting incident 764 of 21 September."
