Northamptonshire's Young Farmers' Clubs have been awarded a grant funded by a Thrapston business to support its wellbeing project and attract new members.

Scotts of Thrapston, a family business that specialises in bespoke timber products, has funded the grant through the Northamptonshire Community Foundation.

Northamptonshire's Young Farmers' Club's development officer, Elizabeth Packwood, said: "We have recently been awarded a grant from Scott’s of Thrapston so we can continue our support our members through our reach out program.

"We have five clubs in the county and are always looking for new members.

"Mostly people believe that you have to be a farmer to join the club, however around 40 per cent of our young people are not farmers but do have an interest in the countryside."

The Northants Young Farmers' Clubs are based in Oundle, Thrapston, Kelmarsh, Grendon, and Towcester.

They offer members weekly meetings, which is a great chance to socialist, as well as regular sports, competitions, talks, travel, visits, funraising, events, and more.

The clubs say one great way to reduce rural social isolation is to join up - each club as received Rural+ training to support young people living rurally and any associated isolation they might be experiencing.

The clubs are also going to use the fund to promote wellbeing through raising awareness about mental health, promoting positive mental wellbeing and reducing social isolation.

You do not need to be a farmer or have any connection to farming to join a Young Farmers' Club, you just need to have an interest in the countryside and rural issues.
