Petts seeking a good run as Doughboys enter Vase
The Doughboys begin their Vase campaign with a second qualifying round clash against Burnham at the Dog & Duck tomorrow (Saturday).
It’s been an encouraging start to the new season for Petts’ team as they sit in seventh spot in the early Future Lions United Counties League Premier Division table.

It was a loss that clearly still hurts and Petts said: “To be honest, we are still reeling a bit from the FA Cup defeat.
“We were 2-1 up with eight minutes to go and lost the game so it was a tough one to take.
“So we have to take our anger out on the FA Vase.
“We don’t know much about Burnham but having done a bit of homework, it’s clear they have had a good start and they made it through the FA Cup last weekend.

“It’s always interesting when you are up against teams outside of the UCL. We are looking forward to it and it would be lovely to get on a good run in the competition.”
The Doughboys picked up their second league win of the season last weekend as they fought back from 2-1 down to claim a fine 4-2 success over Harborough Town.
And Petts knows his team must continue to take their chances when they arrive.

“We have played well enough to win the majority of our games and the only one where we didn’t was when we lost at Sleaford and even then I felt we did enough to earn a point.
“Overall, I am really happy with how we have started.
“The big thing for us is making sure we take our chances because we are creating plenty of them.
“It’s about scoring goals and making sure you don’t concede but the more you can score, the less pressure there is on your defence and that’s what we must focus on when we are creating a number of opportunities.”
