Wright happy with success of Steel Park Cup
Newcastle United, Leeds United and PSV Eindhoven sent sides to take part in the four-way competition - along with the hosts - with Newcastle running out winners on Sunday afternoon.
The previous day had seen the Magpies beat Corby 3-0 after a gifted PSV group had been the Leeds XI 4-1.

And, with decent crowds coming along to watch, it all made for a good 48 hours for Wright.
“It was a very good weekend,” he said. “It was long weekend but it was a really good one.
“It was very much worthwhile and we’re pleased with the way the event went.

“We saw loads of Leeds shirts about and even a few PSV ones so it was very pleasing.”
As for the efforts on the pitch, the fortunes were a little more mixed for the Steelmen with a heavy defeat followed by a big win.
Wright, however, was not too concerned about the Saturday loss to Newcastle.

“What would we learn from that?
“Newcastle were the best team in this competition. They are full-time professionals and had five lads in their team who have Premier League experience.
“And what you have to remember is we had a stonewall penalty turned down, hit the post and missed a one-on-one before they scored and goals change games.
“The win over Leeds was massively important as we haven’t won a game at Steel Park for a while and it was good to be able to send people home having seen us win a match.
“It was a comfortable 3-0. We played some great football and kept a clean sheet. We have to be pleased with that.”
