Daniel Shaw National Highways duty operations manager said: “We’re aware of the issues at the location following torrential downpours over the weekend.
"We have already carried out essential work to clear away debris in the drainage systems at this part of the A14 using specialist equipment. This evening (Tuesday) we’re also carrying out some further work at the location which will help to prevent flooding in the future.”
A spokesman for National Highways added: “We will be utilising an already planned closure on the A14 for tonight’s work.

"These are planned to start from 8pm this evening, being removed by 6am tomorrow morning.”
Sandbags have been placed alongside the carriageway to reduce the amount of water on the road, but large puddles have been forming.
Roadworks will reduce the A14 both eastbound and westbound to one lane between Junction 9, for the A509 Isham and Wellingborough, and Junction 10, for the A6 Burton Latimer, Barton Seagrave, Rushden turn.
