The members wanted to do something kind for the users of Isebrook Hospital, part of the Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

Members of Wellingborough's Polish community who noticed that their local hosptial had a lack of toiletries for patients have donated boxes of smellies to cheer up anyone on a ward.

When Avon lady Kasia Szczepanik and Polish teacher Joanna Niewien learned from a friend that the bathrooms in the Isebrook Hospital were lacking in hand creams and soaps, they asked Wellingborough's Polish cosmetic-loving consumers to help out.

Collecting from the Avon range and supplementing the 'soap bank' with other toiletries, the women delivered their kind gifts to the hospital.

Joanna said: "We saw that these things were needed so it's been wonderful to help us. It has been worth it.

"Polish girls are very enthusiastic about make-up and they can donate every time they order something.

"Our friend Gosia works as a cleaning manager at the hospital and she has seen the things we donated in the bathroom on the ward and it shows that they are needed.

"The hospital said it was the first time that someone had supported the hospital in this way."

Joanna, who works as a volunteer at the town's Polish School, might be organising another donation drive depending on how lockdown proceeds.

She added: "We will see how the situation goes but we would like to say a big thank you to everyone who joined the campaign.

" My children made the staff a card to say thank you.

"We are very happy that in this way we can help and on behalf of our community, we would like to thank the NHS very much."
