The spokesman said: “A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of wilfully neglecting a person without capacity they were caring for, after a man in his 80s died inside an address in Melloway Road, Rushden.

“He has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

“As this is a live investigation, it would be inappropriate for us to comment further at this time.”

Rushden Park Care Home provides residential and nursing care for 65 residents with en-suite accommodation. It also offers short-term respite care.

Dan Ryan, chief operating officer at MHA, owner of Rushden Park Care Home, said: “MHA extends our most heartfelt condolences to this resident’s loved ones at what must be a very difficult and sad time.

“MHA is carrying out our own investigation internally into this matter, and of course we will be cooperating fully with any investigations the police are undertaking.

"Other than this, it would be inappropriate for us to speculate on such ongoing inquiries at this time.”
