Desborough woman calls for safe bus stop crossing
Marianne Lendrum has voiced her concerns over the crossing to the bus stop in Harborough Road, near to the roundabout with Ironwood Avenue.
Mrs Lendrum said: “I use the bus all the time and crossing there is a nightmare.

Hide Ad“You struggle to see anything and although there are pedestrian islands there I’ve had to jump back from a car a couple of times.
“I know people in a wheelchair who really struggle to cross.
“My fear is that someone will get hit.”
Mrs Lendrum, who lives in nearby Kielder Street, added that she asked about the cost of putting a crossing with lights on the stretch of road and was told it would cost £50,000.
She said: “When you come back the buses have to go all around the Grange to drop you off.

Hide Ad“If you ask the drivers nicely they drop you off before but they’re not supposed to.
“I asked about the possibility of putting a crossing there but they said one with lights would cost £50,000.”
A Northamptonshire County Council spokesman said they will be cutting back vegetation to improve visibility, and are considering installing a new bus stop.
The spokesman said: “Introducing any new highways measures must be considered against the budgets available.

Hide Ad“Following the site meeting, Northamptonshire Highways has agreed to cut back the vegetation on the Ironwood Avenue roundabout to improve visibility for the existing crossings.
“We are also consulting on the possibility of installing a bus stop northbound on the Harborough Road between Gapstile Close and the Ironwood Avenue roundabout.”
