Rushden gun incident launches police helicopter manhunt

The incident happened on Sunday evening

Reports from members of the public saying they had seen a man with an air rifle in Rushden's Hall Park sparked a manhunt last night (Sunday, April 18).

Eyewitnesses said they had seen a boy firing a weapon in the park, popular with families and walkers.

Police officers launched a search for the boy and the police helicopter was deployed.

A spokesman for Northants Police said: "This happened at about 8.20pm last night when we received reports that a white boy in a black hoody and blue jeans was firing an air rifle in Hall Park, Rushden.

"We deployed and also sent the helicopter up but found no-one matching the description. No one-was injured.

"We’d appeal for anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area at the time to contact us on 101 quoting incident number 478 of 18/04/21."
