The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR)-supported Valneva Phase 2/3 study is open to healthy adults who have not had a previous Covid-19 vaccine.

They don’t have to be a registered patient at Lakeside Healthcare to take part in the Corby site-based trial.

A total of 4,000 participants will be recruited across the UK and everyone involved in the study will receive two active vaccine doses, administered in a four-week interval.

Corby is one of 27 locations across the UK which is hosting a study site.

Dr Amardeep Heer, GP partner and director of research and innovation at Lakeside Healthcare Research, said: "Participants apply via an online screening process and if they meet all the criteria we will be notified of their details and will contact them in due course.

"Due to the trial criteria it is likely that this trial will attract applications from predominantly younger applicants who have not yet been vaccinated and we are encouraging all those who may be interested to sign up as soon as possible."

The study aims to answer two main questions: how does the level of antibodies induced by VLA2001 compare to the antibody levels induced by the AZD1222 Covid-19 vaccine, and is the VLA2001 vaccine safe?

What to expect:

Everyone who participates in this study will receive, depending on the age, either the vaccine candidate VLA2001 or the licensed vaccine AZD1222 against Covid-19.
