ghg Royal & Derngate’s Young Company: Create present the world premiere of Immune starting tonight (Thursday).
This provocative and darkly comic play has been written by acclaimed young playwright Oladipo Agboluaje, whose works include The Hounding of David Oluwale and Iya Ile.
The play has been specially co-commissioned, in partnership with West Yorkshire Playhouse and Theatre Royal Plymouth, whose own youth theatre groups will also be performing the Immune in their hometowns.
This topical new play explores modern society’s technological dependency, social resilience and the need to belong.
An ordinary school day. But today, there is no going home.
When the rest of the world has forgotten your existence, where do you run when the Apocalypse looms?
The dock? The navy base? Or do you just sit tight and ride the whole thing out?
In a city overcome with death, we are finally forced to start living.
The script for Immune is being published by Oberon Books, which will give other youth companies the opportunity to perform this brand new work.
Young Company: Create bring their production of Immune to the Royal stage until Saturday July 4 with evening performances at 7.45pm and a matinee on Saturday at 2.30pm.
There will be a post-show talk after the performance on Thursday night. Tickets – priced £9 – can be booked by calling Box Office on 01604 624811 or online at www.royalandderngate.co.uk. This production is recommended for ages 14 and above.
