It may have been freezing outside and his partner Erin Boag suffering from a cold, but Anton Du Beke’s now famous grin was bright and warm as the dance duo started their latest tour in Northampton last night.

Anton & Erin Go To Hollywood is the twinkle-toed pair’s fifth national dance tour together, and the duo are showing no signs of fading in talent or charisma.

Best known for appearing in TV’s Strictly Come Dancing, Anton and Erin can certainly fill a theatre and there were very few spare seats on their first night at the Royal & Derngate.

I have seen two of Anton & Erin’s other tours and in this Hollywood show they were really on form, performing dazzling dance routines accompanied by some supremely talented backing dancers.

The dance sequences were performed to themes from the most famous movie musicals ranging from West Side Story to Thoroughly Modern Millie, Top Hat and Hello Dolly.

Although the couple are more often known for their waltzes and quicksteps, one of my favourite dances was their tango which closely followed a dramatic West Side Story sequence performed by the backing dancers.

Each moment of the show was exquisitely choreographed and performed, even despite the fact that Erin admitted she was under the weather.

Other favourite moments for me were the sections of the show when the couple answered questions which had been submitted by the audience and when they simply shared banter between themselves.

My husband and I, both avid viewers of ‘Strictly,’ found Anton’s tales of his former celebrity dance partners - in which he compared Jerry Hall’s height to that of a giraffe - absolutely hilarious. Although I felt a bit guilty about laughing so heartily as the very nice lady sitting next to me kept muttering ‘he is not very kind about them is he!’

Particularly funny was their story about the time when Erin’s halterneck dress came undone in the middle of a quickstep and Anton had to quickly do it up, mid dance routine, before anyone noticed.

The show is a treat for the eyes and ears. All the women in the audience could merely look on in envy as Erin emerged onto the stage, scene after scene, in an apparently countless number of gorgeous, sequin encrusted dresses; she looked immaculately beautiful.

Dance numbers were interspersed with wonderful entertainment from singer Lance Ellington and a 25-piece orchestra, giving real variety to the show. Anton even took to the stage to sing a couple of songs in duet with Lance, which really proved what a multi-talented performer he is.

For any fans of Strictly, or of dance and music in general, Anton & Erin’s latest tour is a must see. A great evening of glamour to brighten up a cold winter evening.
