the Northern Ballet company are taking a treat for dance fans young and old to Milton Keynes this week .

Tomorrow, the company will stage its first short ballet for children at Milton Keynes Theatre.

A ballet version of The Ugly Duckling will be performed at 11am and 1pm, and has been choreographed by Dreda Blow and Sebastian Loe.

Based on the classic Hans Christian Andersen fairy-tale, it tells the story of a lonely duckling who doesn’t fit in with her friends. Throughout the ballet, the duckling learns about herself and those around her and when she learns to love who she is, she turns into a beautiful swan.

But grown-ups have not been left out of the Northern Ballet’s schedule as a full length production of The Great Gatsby will also be performed from today until Saturday.

Performances will take place at 7.30pm nightly, with 2.30pm matinees today and Saturday.

An adaptation of the novel by F Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby takes place on New York’s Long Island in the heady days of the 1920s.

Ugly Duckling tickets are £5 and prices for The Great Gatsby are £15 to £30.
