The European premiere of an award-winning drama will be staged in Royal & Derngate’s Underground studio from today.

A co-production between the Northampton venue and The Gate Theatre in London, and directed by the Royal & Derngate’s artistic director, James Dacre, The Body Of An American will be performed until March 8.

The play stars William Gaminara, best known from TV’s Silent Witness, and Damien Molony, who recently appeared in Ripper Street.

Set in Mogadishu in 1993, Paul is a Canadian photojournalist who is about to take a picture that will win him the Pulitzer Prize.

In Princeton, 2007, Dan is a writer who is struggling to finish a play about ghosts. Both men live worlds apart, but a chance encounter sparks an extraordinary friendship that sees them journey from some of the most dangerous places on earth to the depths of the human soul.

The Body Of An American sees two actors jump between more than 30 roles in a new form of documentary drama.

Tickets cost £17 or £15. For more information about the play or to book tickets, call the box office on 01604 624811 or visit the website,
