Fourteen original performances, written and directed by final year BA Acting students from The University of Northampton, will be performed in a week-long arts festival starting on Monday.
The Flash Theatre Festival performances – including solo and group pieces – have been devised as part of the acting students’ final university project and will be performed at a variety of venues across Northampton.
One of the plays, entitled Broken Butterfly, has been put together by Kieran Gould-Dowen’s Obvious Oddity Productions, and will be performed at The Racehorse pub in Northampton on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday at 7pm (tickets £5).
The play follows the lives of two main characters: Sam, whose dream of playing basketball in the London Olympics is within arms’ reach, and Harry, who is determined to make a difference to the country’s politics.
Sally Cook, senior lecturer in Performance Studies, said: “The pressure is on because students will be awarded a grade for the creativity of their performance as well as their acting ability.”
Tickets for the plays start at £5. They can be purchased from the Royal & Derngate box office on 01604 624811. The festival will run up to and including Friday.
