A National Theatre tour of a new play by Alan Bennett is being performed at Milton Keynes Theatre this week.

The play is called People and the star-studded cast includes Sian Phillips, Michael Thomas, Brigit Forsyth, Simon Bubb and Paul Moriarty and Selina Cadell.

Describing the story, a spokeswoman for the show said: “People spoil things; there are so many of them and the last thing one wants is them traipsing through one’s house. But with the park a jungle and a bath on the billiard table, what is Dorothy to do?

“Her archdeacon sister wants to hand the estate to the care of the National Trust, but Dorothy favours a more creative solution.”

People reunites Alan Bennett with director Nicholas Hytner, following their collaborations on the celebrated The History Boys and The Habit of Art. People is Alan Bennett’s sixth play for the National Theatre; the others were The Madness of George III, The Wind in the Willows and Single Spies.

The play will end its Milton Keynes Theatre run on Saturday. Performances take place at 7.30pm each day and at 2.30pm today and Saturday.

Tickets cost £15-£29.50. To book tickets, call the box office on 0844 8717652 or visit the website,
