Last few performances for Festival of Chaos

Royal & Derngate continues its Festival Of Chaos with the staging of two classic plays.

Both plays, Euripides’ Greek tragedy, The Bacchae, and Blood Wedding, have been re-invented into new contemporary versions which premiered in Northampton.

The Bacchae is being staged in the disused printworks of the Chronicle & Echo’s town centre offices, and Blood Wedding is on the Royal stage. The Bacchae takes audiences into the underbelly of a modern city built on money and greed, where a riotous underground world is emerging.

In the new version of Federico García Lorca’s Blood Wedding, the spotlight is thrown on a close-knit community in rural Spain, where a long-term feud between two warring households simmers under the burning sun. The productions are performed in rotation by the same company of actors, and are directed by the Royal & Derngate’s artistic director, Laurie Sansom. Both plays run until Saturday June 30.
