As Strictly Come Dancing fever sweeps the nation, one group will be bringing dance with a decidedly Irish flavour to Northampton this week.

Award-winning, internationally acclaimed Irish dance sensation Spirit of the Dance comes to Royal & Derngate tomorrow (Friday) in a “foot-stomping whirl of colour, sound and movement.”

This dance troupe of more than 350 performers combines Irish dance with passionate Latin rhythms of tango, flamenco and red-hot salsa, producing a “heart-pounding production” which the International Post has decribed as “the world’s greatest Irish dance show.”

The group, which has more than 350 performers, is described on its website as “Irish in origin and bursting with raw energy.”

Winner of nine global awards, this dance spectacular is said to have smashed box office records in 15 different countries.

Spirit of the Dance first performed together at the Bristol Hippodrome Theatre in September 1996 and went from strength to strength. It now has 10 award-winning troupes touring the world.

The champion dancers of the Irish International Dance Company are known to step and tap in perfect time, creating thunderous, spine-tingling rhythms, while the lighting, array of costumes and choreography help to produce a striking visual spectacle which promises to delight dance fans.

Tickets for Spirit of the Dance cost £24. To book, call the box office on 01604 624811 or log onto www.

The performance begins at 7.30pm.
