Young dance fans will be in for a treat when one company takes its first short ballet for children to Milton Keynes Theatre next week.

The company will be at Milton Keynes for five days, performing two shows.

The children’s ballet will be The Ugly Duckling, which is set to be performed at 11am and 1pm on Friday, April 19, and has been choreographed by Dreda Blow and Sebastian Loe.

Based on the classic Hans Christian Andersen fairy-tale, it tells the story of a lonely duckling who doesn’t fit in with her friends. Throughout the ballet, the duckling learns about herself and those around her and when she learns to love who she is, she turns into a beautiful swan.

But grown-ups have not been left out of the Northern Ballet’s schedule as a full length production of The Great Gatsby will also be performed from Tuesday, April 16 to Saturday, April 20 (7.30pm nightly, with 2.30pm matinees on the Thursday and Saturday).

An adaptation of the novel by F Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby, takes place on New York’s Long Island in the heady days of the 1920s.

Ugly Duckling tickets are £5 and prices for The Great Gatsby are £15 to £30.
