A CLASSIC tale with a contemporary twist visits Northampton’s Royal & Derngate from tonight.
Inspired by Festival Of Chaos, Royal & Derngate’s The Actors Company presents Ovid’s Tales Of Metamorphosis, from tonight until Saturday.
Exploring transformation, excess and punishment, classic tales from mythology are brought into the 21st century in this new adaptation.
Greedy Midas, whose touch turned everything into gold, becomes an oil tycoon, the depraved Lycaeon, who was turned into a wolf, now becomes a head of the party at the end of the world.
And in the 21st century fate of the proud Niobe, whose folly turned her into stone, and the curious Semele, whose quest for knowledge made her evaporate in the presence of a God, are yet to be revealed.
The Actors Company is a weekly session where community actors aged from 21 can work with theatre professionals.
This production has been developed by The Actors Company and writer Justin Butcher, and directed by Madeleine O’Reilly. Performances are at 8pm.
Tickets are priced at £9 and can be booked by calling 01604 624811 or visiting www. royalandderngate.co.uk
