Screening to get your teeth into

Steven Spielberg’s famous shark is to appear on the open air big screen at Stanwick Lakes to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the blockbuster thriller Jaws.

It will play after sunset on Friday August 14 and is part of the LUNA FLIX outdoor cinema season organised by local film fanatic Simon Hopkins.

He said: “I have always loved Jaws but never actually saw it on 1975’s cinema release as I was too young, so this will be my first time seeing it on the big screen as well as many of our audience.

“And yes, I remember a certain famous scene where I did jump out of my skin too!”.

LUNA FLIX presents film uses a seven metre wide inflatable screen, projecting a clear HD picture and accompanied with up to 4000 watts of sound. It is a project working in co-operation with Stanwick Lakes making special use of their grassy outdoor amphitheatre by the lake which has proved very successful since launching in May.

Mr Hopkins stated “Being outdoors is what makes our film experience different. Anyone can go to a multiplex, but it won’t be as memorable as enjoying your picnic while the sun sets over the water, and seeing if you can spot a shark fin!”

Other films to be screened as part of the season includes The Lost Boys, Back To The Future, Labyrinth, Ghostbusters, Pretty Woman and the musical Hairspray.

LUNA FLIX will then transfer to Lamport Hall in September and will show romantic films Dirty Dancing, An Officer & A Gentleman and the recent remake of Far From The Madding Crowd.
