American singer Alexander O’Neal plays at The Deco theatre in Northampton tomorrow night.

The R’n’B legend, from Minneapolis, will be singing hits including Criticize, If You Were Here Tonight and Fake.

While O’Neal’s signature style is an upbeat modern soul style, created through his gospel singing technique, he is equally capable of blasting out funky, up-tempo numbers or delivering tender ballads.

His song Never Knew Love Like This is regarded as a Northern Soul classic.

O’Neal’s first big break was joining the band, Flyte Tyme, which later changed its name to Time and was signed by the singer, Prince.

His 1987, his album Hearsay, sold nearly a million copies in the UK.

A 28-track ‘best of’ compilation was released last year. Doors open at 7pm and tickets cost £22.50 in advance.
