An electro-orchestral and visual reinterpretation of iconic post punk band Joy Division heads to Northampton’s Royal & Derngate theatre next month.

Live_Transmission: ‘Joy Division Reworked’ is a collaboration between electronic music pioneer Scanner, Heritage Orchestra and visual artist Matt Watkins.

Rather than classical interpretations or cover versions, Live_Transmission is a fearless dismantling of Joy Division’s visual and musical motifs, creating an immersive event that pays homage to the signature spirit that defined the group.

The show pivots around drummer Adam Betts, guitarist Matt Calvert and bassist John Calvert.

The four are kept in check by conductor Jules Buckley who also leads the orchestra.

The musicians are sandwiched between two screens that projected artwork of Matt Watkins, whose visuals complement switching between clarity and chaos.

Live_Transmission is on Tuesday, September 24.

Tickets cost £21 and doors open at 8pm.
