Classic Notes, with Anna Brosnan

This will be my last classical notes column for a while as I depart on maternity leave, but it will be a busy one with plenty of events to mention.

Fans of Baroque music should note down March 8 in their diaries as Fiori Musicali is set to present a double-bill of favourites from this era in musical history, including Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, at The Castle theatre in Wellingborough.

Fiori have been working alongside talented young string players and this collaboration can be heard in a showcase at 2.45pm. The full orchestral gala programme, including international prize-winning violinist, Kerstin Linder-Dewan, will be performed at 7.45pm. Tickets cost £10 or £8 for the matinee. Entrance to the evening show costs £20 or £18. Call 01933 270007.

Not strictly a classical concert, but I have been asked to give a mention to The Merlin Singers’ forthcoming concert on March 7 (7.30pm) at Park Avenue Methodist Church in Northampton. The programme includes plenty of show tunes from musicals such as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Tickets cost £5 in advance or £7 on the door. To book, call 01604 670182.

Lastly, a mention for the Kettering Citadel Band who will be performing in an ‘Evening To Remember’ this Saturday (March 1) at 7pm. Admission is £4 or £3. This Salvation Army event will take place at 8 Tower Street in Northampton.

Future classical notes columns will be taken on by David Jackson, who is contactable via email on Please let him know about any future concerts.
