Malcolm Arnold’s life to be celebrated at Royal & Derngate

The ninth annual Arnold Festival takes place at Royal & Derngate this weekend.

The festival celebrates the life and work of Northampton-born composer Sir Malcolm Arnold.

The weekend’s events include a performance of the opera The Open Window and a Gala Concert, A Night With The Stars.

Sir Malcolm Arnold’s music was popular during the 1950s. This year’s festival, entitled A Kaleidoscopic Imagination, features film, ballet, orchestral, chamber and instrumental music.

It will be launched by trumpet player John Wallace, who will perform Arnold’s Trumpet Concerto with the Northampton Symphony Orchestra

Other highlights will include a rare performance of Arnold’s short comic opera The Open Window by The Berkeley Ensemble.

Performances take place on Saturday, October 18 and Sunday, October 19.

Tickets for the gala concert on the Sunday night cost from £15 to £33.50.
