Welcome to our latest column. I’ve now been in my new role just over a month and it’s been all go!
What a great turnout for our January open dialogue event with Perfect Pitch and plenty of ideas for an original new Corby musical.
At the follow-up event, several volunteers came forward to join the producing committee.
After lively discussion and consensus about broad themes and musical styles we’ve developed a brief for the new musical.
This has been sent to three professional writing teams who will each come up with three story ideas.
The producing committee will select the best idea from each team, to be worked up for a pitching event in May when the winning writing team will be picked.
There’ll be more ways to get involved on and off stage so do get in touch if you’re interested.
Our July Big Night Out with Frantic Assembly is also gathering pace.
Artistic director Scott Graham and his team were in Corby last week, planning workshops and community events leading up to the July performances.
Scott grew up in Corby, as did associate director Neil Bettles, and both are proud that Frantic Assembly is truly ‘Made in Corby’.
We’ll be looking for people of all ages to take part in workshops and performances later in the spring, so if you want to get involved make sure you’re on our mailing list.
As well as our Big Nights Out commissions, we held a successful Big Ideas evening last week too.
Thanks to everyone who came along and took part – we had some great ideas and suggestions which will shape the Big Ideas Fund and we already have 12 local people interested in being on our panel. Any community group in the Corby borough which has Big Ideas for arts can apply for funding from £500 up to £5,000.
There’s still room for more people to get involved so if you’ve a Big Arts Idea, so email me.
