As someone who lives in Wellingborough and who is a huge fan of Mexican food, I was delighted to learn about the Hind Hotel’s new venture.

The El Parador Bar and Mexican Grill is situated in the front bar of the hotel in Sheep Street.

Having often previously travelled to Milton Keynes to satisfy my cravings for prawn fajitas I was delighted to learn about the new offering on my doorstep.

I dined there with a friend on a Friday night recently.

The venue retains the traditional feel of the Hind, while the recently added decorations and Mexican music create a more festive and upbeat ambiance.

The menu is quite comprehensive and features everything you’d expect to find at a Mexican restaurant, including various types of fajitas.

An impressive cocktail list is also on offer, the charms of which we found impossible to resist during our recent outing.

For our starter we shared a large bowl of nachos covered in salsa, guacamole, sour cream and cheese (£5.25) as we wanted to ensure we left room for our main course.

This turned out to be a sensible move as they were quite filling and the single portion proved to be more than enough for both of us.

On to the main course and we both ordered fajitas. Despite being tempted by both the steaks on the grills section of the menu and the chicken and steak variations of the traditional Mexican dish, I opted for my old favourite, tiger prawn fajitas (£13.95).

My friend had the vegetarian fajitas (£11.95) – it’s worth noting that as a vegetarian she did not feel limited by the menu. In fact she commented that there was plenty for her to chose from.

The fajitas were beautifully presented in the same fashion you’d expect in any top notch Mexican eatery, with small individual bowls for the sauces and cheese and the filling delivered on a piping hot skittle.

We piled the fillings on to the wraps and tucked in. They were extremely delicious; not too spicy, but with just enough of a kick to tantalise the taste buds.

The portion was ample and, halfway through my
second wrap, I felt so full that
I couldn’t even finish my

We didn’t have to wait long for each course to arrive and mention should be made of the friendly service, particularly that offered by the manageress who was very attentive and approachable.

We really enjoyed our first outing to El Parador and both commented that it had definitely added something to the town which had previously been lacking.

There weren’t really any downsides that we noticed. Perhaps the waiting staff could be more familiar with the menu but, as we visited shortly after it had opened, their unfamiliarity was perhaps to be expected.
