When you’re a guest at a wedding, there are lots of things to look forward to, from the ceremony itself to the speeches, but one of the other key parts of joining a couple on their special day is buying them a gift that they will cherish.

Thankfully you don’t have to look too far to find the perfect gift either because a number of our towns have some gorgeous little independent shops that stock an array of unique and special gifts that will help your present stand out from the crowd.

Here are just a few suggestions on where to go.

Icle Star, located on the High Street, is owned and run by Lucy Clements, who offers a personalisation service on keepsake boxes and photo albums, both of which can make excellent gifts for a wedding.

Lucy, pictured right, said: “When it comes to the personalisation on the boxes, cards and photo albums, people can have what they want, and on the cards, the personalisation is free of charge. I want to be able to offer people that personal touch that you just can’t get in the High Street shops.”

As well as the personalised gifts, Lucy also stocks a range of other wedding gifts. She said: “I also try to make sure I have items in that no one else in the local area has, so people can find something unique to give a loved one.”

And as if that wasn’t enough, once you’ve chosen your gifts, you can enjoy a hot drink and cake in the adjoining Lucy’s Tea Room.

This shop, located on The Jamb, predominantly sells giftware, including gifts for weddings, such as photo frames, keepsake boxes and homely items which would be perfect for a newly betrothed couple moving into their first home together.

Owner Annette Conway, pictured right, said: “I don’t think there is a shop like this anywhere near us really, I try my best to offer something different to my customers and I think that’s what they keep coming back for. I shop all over the country to make sure I have unique items and I only buy one or two of an item and then it will be something different, so it’s always worth coming in and taking a look.

“We’re a very friendly shop so we’re happy to help people make the right choice if they are looking for a gift or something special.”

Cranberry House on the High Street in Higham Ferrers has a wealth of goodies in stock including an area dedicated to wedding gifts.

Owner Jenny Rainer, pictured below, said: “We try to have things that complement each other in the shop.

“It’s about making the right choices, you have to be confident with your purchases and after 12 years, we have a good idea of what our customers like and want.

“It’s also knowing what quantities to buy and getting the pricing right from the start. With many of our items, we never buy too much in bulk, because we want people to know they won’t see the same thing everywhere they look.”
