Wicksteed Park will host a huge all-day 80s music extravaganza starring Billy Ocean and Bananarama next summer.

The Kettering park's open air theatre, which it was announced would be created earlier this year, will host 80s in the Park on Friday, June 25.

It will feature a stellar line-up of artists with the king of R&B, Billy Ocean, headlining alongside Bananarama, Go West, T’Pau, Cutting Crew and Chesney Hawkes plus an 80s set from karaoke party kings Massaoke.

The event will take place the day before the first outdoor event announced by promoters M&B, Comedy in the Park, which will be headlined by John Bishop and feature Kettering's very own James Acaster.

James Penny, operations director for the new open air theatre, said: “We’re excited to announce our first outdoor music event at Wicksteed Park.

"Since we announced Comedy in the Park we’ve had loads of people asking for a big 80s event and this one will be huge.

"What everyone is really looking for right now is a huge party night to look forward to next year. We promise this event will more than deliver and will be headlined by the king of R&B Billy Ocean.

"Flamboyance and rule-breaking is encouraged, fancy dress is not compulsory but dust off your shoulder pads, sweatbands, leg warmers and double denim if you dare."

M&B have promised to transform Wicksteed Park into an 80s carnival with award-winning street food, pop-up cocktail bars, cafes, bars, shops and stalls to go with the music.

Promoters say they are confident that the event will be something to look forward to next year once Covid-19 restrictions are lifted.

However, because of the size of the location, they say plans can be adapted to run the event with social distancing should that be required and the event will be completely safe and Covid-compliant.
