Since its launch night has sought to champion some of the best new bands from across the country with one stipulation – the line-up is only revealed on the night.

Organiser Joshua Astrop admits while it hasn’t been plain sailing, by the time the first band is on stage he remembers why he decided to start Secret Gig.

“I hate it,” he jokes – “No, that’s not accurate. I’m anxious about it - I’m asking bands to do something where they can’t promote themselves.

“Bands put a lot of trust in me. About 20 minutes in, it’s brilliant and I remember why I do it.

“It’s fun and I see other people enjoying it. It’s got momentum now so I can’t stop.”

Each gig involves three bands who are revealed during the night.

Looking back at why he decided to start Secret Gig, Josh explains he felt people in Northampton weren’t taking enough risks with live music.

People would go out if they knew it was going to be a good night but wouldn’t take a risk,” he explains. I just thought, ‘how can I get people to take a chance’.

“I think it’s exciting and worth a shot. If people don’t think that - don’t come.

“It’s about learning something new and seeing something different.

£That’s where all the fun is – people need to live a little.”
