After a few months away from the limelight, slowthai has tonight revealed his new single Enemy.

Whether by coincidence or simply identical planning, the Northampton rapper timed the release of his new track to coincide with the address to the nation by the PM.

It’s the first time we’ve heard from Ty since the release of Gorillaz’s Momentary Bliss which he featured on with Slaves at the start of this year.

Despite other collaborations last year, Enemy is also slowthai’s first new ‘solo’ track since the release of his Mercury Prize nominated debut album, Nothing Great About Britain, which was released last year.

Enemy was produced by slowthai, Samo and Kwes Darko.

The bass heavy and menacing single is accompanied with a ‘back-to-basics’ video shot with slowthai rapping directly into the camera.

slowthai has been keeping a low profile since the NME Awards in February.

Despite a female voice two thirds of the way through Enemy proclaiming “slowthai, you have officially been cancelled,” – a direct reference to February’s events - the track hopefully marks the return of Ty and the beginning of new material from him.

Enemy is out now and available via regular streaming platforms.
