A Rushden brass band, looking forward to returning to competitions and concerts, is encouraging more members to join in their music making.

After an enforced lay-off due to Covid restrictions, Rushden Town Band, like many other music groups, has been unable to perform or fully rehearse.

Now band members are preparing for the band's return with their first engagement, post Covid, on Sunday, July 4 at Abington Park bandstand in Northampton.

A band spokesman said: "Prior to the pandemic, the band had an amazing 10 years, working hard to move up the banding sections, and we now reside in the First Section.

"In addition to competing, the band also has regular annual engagements - playing in local bandstands, September Proms concerts, local charity concerts and Christmas events.

"The band has regained our usual bookings for the rest of this year - once restrictions are lifted - and we are very grateful for the continued support from the concert organisers.

"During lockdown members have continued to socialise with each other virtually with quizzes and even a murder mystery evening."

As well as entertaining crowds at various events throughout the year, the band is a member of the Leicestershire Brass Band Association and the British Federation of Brass Bands.

The successful music group has now invited new members to join them to continue their music making.

Rehearsals normally take place at Rushden Working Men’s Club in Griffith Street, but until lockdown restrictions allow, rehearsals have been taking place at the Rushden Goods Shed in groups of six.

The spokesman said: "We are particularly looking for cornet, euphonium, trombone, B flat bass or percussion players, but always look forward to meeting any brass band players."
