Orchestral greats and Irish favourite at Royal & Derngate in Northampton

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is heading back to Northampton on February 19 as part of the Royal & Derngate's orchestral season for a matinee performance, entitled Russian Masters.

Conducted by Grzegorz Nowak, it will feature classics from a host of Russian composers including Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky and Rimsky-Korsakov. It will open with Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances from his opera Prince Igor, followed by Rachmaninov’s sublime Piano Concerto No.2, performed by Ivana Gavric. Other classics will include Mussorgsky’s A Night on the Bare Mountain Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol and Khachaturian’s Adagio. It will close with Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture.

The concert starts at 3pm with a pre-concert talk at 2pm, hosted by John Griff. Tickets cost from £16 to £35.

Next Friday, Liverpool born country sensation Nathan Carter (pictured below) headlines the venue.
