Join in the madcap action for stage show

The show might be entitled Calling For Help, but is what the production team is asking of the audience for an immersive theatre experience in Northampton.

Set in a call centre, it can be seen at The Playhouse theatre in Claire Street and draws on inherent humour of authoritarian rules and procedures.

The play features Northampton based actress, Caroline Nash, as Rachel, a call-centre team leader trying to hold her family together, and Birmingham based Oli Leonard as Sean, her son-in-law whose newborn baby seems to be talking to him.

The characters encourage the audience to join in with the action, providing extra characters and lines, using methods created by the company with test audiences to ensure participants feel involved without being terrified!

Next Page Productions who are staging the show say feedback has been unanimously enthusiastic and the group is looking forward to bringing the work to new audiences across the Midlands.

Calling For Help! is written by Julia Wright and Liz John, who wrote the company’s last play, Invisible, which toured in 2013.

Although a regular writer for BBC’s Doctors, Liz retains a love for stage.

She said: “Rehearsals are a real joy because you can work closely with your actors and director to explore different approaches to a scene and, moment by moment, you watch your work coming alive”.

Caroline was the winner of the 2014 Northampton Come Dine With Me, and returned to Channel 4 to take on winners from other regions in Come Dine Champion of Champions in which she was praised by Birmingham’s Michelin starred chef Glynn Purnell.

Calling For Help! can be seen on Thursday April 14 and Friday April 15 and it starts at 8pm each night.
