Hitmakers from across the decades to play at Silverstone Classic

Aswad, Scouting For Girls and The Brand New Heavies will lead the musical line up when the Silverstone Classic returns for its 30th birthday this summer.

The annual event is renowned for its roster of retro races but is equally loved for its live music and family entertainment.

The Friday ‘Nineties Night’ will be headlined by The Brand New Heavies with Aswad and Scouting For Girls playing the Saturday night.

Silverstone Classic chief executive Nick Wigley said: “With record numbers of visitors now staying with us for the full festival weekend, the live music has become a really integral part of the ever-expanding show.

“The Classic celebrates its 30th birthday this summer and the outstanding line-up of bands performing on Friday and Saturday evenings will just add to what’s going to be an amazing party atmosphere. It’s not to be missed.”

Best known for hits including Midnight at the Oasis and Dream on Dreamer, The Brand New Heavies were pioneers of the acid jazz scene in the 1990s have notched up achieved 16 UK Top 40 singles and released two double platinum-selling albums.

They are still headed by founding members and principal songwriters Simon Bartholomew and Andrew Levy.

They will be joined by Pearl Jam tribute act Pearl Jamm and Britpop Reunion playing some of the biggest hits from the era.

The following night will feature performances by Aswad and Scouting For Girls following a warm-up set by DJ Sterling Moss.

Reggae legends Aswad reached the top of the UK charts with Don’t Turn Around in 1988 while Scouting For Girls had four UK Top 10 hits including This Ain’t A Love Song which reached Number 1 in 2010.

The band still features two of the three founders, Angus ‘Drummie Zeb’ Gaye on vocals and drums and Tony ‘Gad’ Robinson on bass.

Scouting for Girls have previously been nominated for four BRIT Awards, sold out Wembley and performed at countless festivals.

The Silverstone Classic is from July 31 to August 2. Early Bird tickets are on sale until the end of March.

Adult day ticket prices start at £39 with three-day weekend tickets available for £105.

Camping is available at Silverstone Woodlands.

All tickets must be purchased in advance and include access to both race paddocks, trackside grandstands, funfair rides, car club displays and family activities as well as the live music.
