Folk stalwarts Fairport to play

Iconic folk rockers Fairport Convention will be playing tracks from their latest album Myths and Heroes at Royal & Derngate.

The band is credited with originating British folk-rock music, with their iconic album Liege and Lief, which BBC Radio 2 listeners voted the most influential folk band of all time.

Among other awards, the band has won a BBC Lifetime Achievement Award and their story has been celebrated with a major documentary on BBC Four.

The band’s line up has constantly changed over their career and currently features founder member Simon Nicol on guitars and vocals, Dave Pegg who joined in 1969 on bass, mandolin and vocals, and Ric Sanders on violin.

They’re joined by multi- instrumentalist Chris Leslie on vocals, violin, mandolin, bouzouki, whistles and harmonica with Gerry Conway on drums and percussion.

Next year, Fairport Convention will be celebrating 50 years of making music.

They play the Derngate stage on Tuesday, May 17 at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £23 before fees.

Next Thursday, The Illegal Eagles return to the venue for a night of tight harmonies, acute attention to detail and incredible showmanship.

With nearly 20 years of touring experience, members Phil Aldridge, Keith Atack, Al Vosper, Trevor Newnham, Garreth Hicklin and Greg Webb recreate the distinctive sound of The Eagles with both flare and authenticity which has won them mass acclaim across the world.

Their latest show features all the classics hits from The Eagles’ career including Hotel California and Take It Easy.

This latest production also features a tribute to Glenn Frey, one of the founding members of the original Eagles who died in January.

They play on Thursday, May 19. Doors open at 7.30pm.
