Northants indie quartet The Comms have released their debut single Transmission One.

Described as a ‘back-to-basics’ alternative punk introduction to them, the track was the first they wrote and was recorded last year.

“I had this chord progression knocking about for a while that was proper back-to-basics punk and thought it would make for a good song," explains guitarist Oli Rumens.

“Liam added some lead guitar and some lyrics and before long we had a great track on our hands.”

Guitarist Rumens and singer and guitarist Liam Taylor are joined in The Comms by drummer Sam Forrester and bassist Tommy Mayo.

Oli and Liam formed The Comms in May last year, completing the line up in August.

“The instruments were recorded around June last year in Adam Gammage’s studio in the Garibaldi with the vocals and final mixing and mastering done at the end of March this year in Adam’s newer studio near Phipps Brewery,” adds Rumens

“It felt like a debut single, it’s a song that is a statement of the band’s intentions, musically and lyrically, without giving away too much.

“It’s also the song we play at the beginning of our set and was the first song we ever wrote.”

Explaining the impact the Coronavirus lockdown is having, Rumens said: “Once lockdown has lifted, we’re going to get back into the swing of rehearsing and writing again.

“Liam has been writing material and I have a few song ideas so we have a good idea on what we’re going to work on.

“The lockdown also meant we had to do all the mixing and mastering tweaks for the single remotely via email and text.

“Once this has all cleared up, we’ll definitely try and organise some gigs and we’ll have a follow up to Transmission One in the not too distance future.”
