The Beat back at Roadmender

Two-tone ska legends, The Beat, return to the Roadmender this weekend.

The band formed in industrial Birmingham in 1978, offering messages of hope and peace with an insight into sociopolitical topics. Alongside The Specials, they were heralded as forerunners of the Two-Tone Ska movement.

The band’s first single was a cover of Smokey Robinson’s Tears Of A Clown which reached number six in the UK charts.

The Beat’s debut album I Just Can’t Stop It was released in 1980 and followed by Wha’ppen? and Special Beat Service.

A number of compilation and live albums have since followed.

The current line-up features vocalist, Ranking Roger, drummer Oscar Harrison, Andy Person and Steve Harper on guitars.

They play the Northampton venue on Saturday, February 27.

Doors open at 7.30pm, tickets cost £16.
