The Kiwi utility back was playing his first game of the season having been ruled out with an arm injury sustained in the Aviva Premiership play-off semi-final defeat to Saracens in May.

Wilson was at full-back for the Wanderers, who overcame an 8-3 half-time deficit to earn a bonus-point success at Leicester Grammar School.

Super-sub Luke Eves scored twice, with Tom Collins and Danny Hobbs-Awoyemi also adding to a penalty try.

Sam Olver kicked 13 points to add a gloss to the scoreline, with the Wanderers cruising to victory.

Olver had given his team the lead in the 34th minute as he landed a penalty, but Leicester were to go in at the break ahead as a try and penalty from Ollie Bryant saw them hit back.

The Wanderers were to fall even further behind two minutes into the second period as Christian Loamanu scored.

But then came the stirring response as Harry Mallinder’s run and offload set up Eves, who had come on for Rory Hutchinson just two minutes earlier, for the Wanderers’ first try of the night.

Collins then showed his speed as he latched onto a Tom Kessell kick to score, putting his team ahead in the process.

And the lead was increased when the referee awarded the Wanderers a penalty try after Leicester tacklers impeded Kessell on his way to the line.

Hobbs-Awoyemi was next to score in what was a 14-minute four-try blitz, and Eves rounded things off in the 73rd minute.

Wanderers: Wilson; Collins, Hutchinson (Eves 44), Mallinder, Furbank; Olver, Kessell; Hobbs-Awoyemi, Williams, Denman (Parkins 18), Craig, Woodford, Marshall (c), Ludlum, Bennett.
