The 21-year-old was in the matchday squad for the Aviva Premiership game at Bath last Saturday, providing cover for Mike Haywood in the absence of Dylan Hartley and Matti Williams, who are both recovering from concussion.

And West said: “We’re really excited about Reece. He played in the A League last week and was probably the best player on the pitch.

“He’s young and still has a lot to learn, but we’re really excited about what he can achieve in the future.

“We didn’t put him on last weekend because you always want to put him in gradually, but I’ve been really pleased with him.

“The more time he spends with the first team the better because it’s quite nerve-racking when you’re throwing the ball in to some of the lads we’ve got in our team.

“The more often he does it in training, the better he’ll be.”

Haywood is helping Luton-born Marshall, with the 24-year-old, who has been in impressive form of late, happy to provide some words of wisdom for his young team-mate.

“Luckily I’ve been around for quite a while now and I’ve got a bit of experience so I can pass on my knowledge to Reece,” said Haywood.

“Hopefully he can learn a few things from me.”
