Wasps boss Young questions Saints’ back-up plan ahead of Tigers clash

Wasps boss Dai Young feels Leicester could exploit Saints in the Aviva Premiership play-off semi-finals, despite seeing his side thrashed 74-13 at Franklin’s Gardens on Saturday.

Northampton ran riot, racking up 11 tries on their way to a gargantuan victory in the final game of the regular season.

That result secured a top-two spot, meaning Tigers will be forced to travel to the Gardens on Friday night.

But Young feels Leicester have the ability to match Saints and has questioned whether Jim Mallinder’s men have a sufficient back-up plan should their forward power be nullified.

“Northampton have been impressive all season,” said Young. “Leicester didn’t quite hit their straps in the early part of the season, but they’ve got an uncanny way of getting to the big stage and pulling things out.

“The big difference between teams like Leicester coming here to ourselves is that they can handle the forward power and that would force Northampton into Plan B.

“We know how effective Plan A is, but have they got enough outside of that? I feel Leicester will match them in that area.

“Northampton have added a lot this season, with George North and the likes so they should be a more rounded team this season.

“I certainly wouldn’t like to call it.

“I’m sure Leicester feel they can come here and do the job, but it’s going to be really tough.”
