Jim Mallinder’s men head to Glasgow Warriors hoping to back up last Saturday’s Champions Cup opening-night win against Scarlets at Franklin’s Gardens.

Waller’s second-half score, which came from an unstoppable lineout drive, proved crucial for Saints as they outmuscled the Welsh side.

And the prop knows he and his fellow forwards will have to display similar quality and power if they are to prevail in Scotland.

“Away from home rugby is a different brand of rugby and it’s something we’re looking to improve on,” Waller said.

“It starts up front so we’re going to have to do a bit of work this week and hopefully we can come away with a good performance.

“If the lads can keep performing up front as well as they have done against Scarlets then we’ve got a good base to build on.”

Saints will be desperate to make it two wins from as many European games, especially with a December double-header against Racing 92 on the horizon.

Waller and Co made it out of the pool last season before losing to Clermont Auvergne in the quarter-finals.

And the Academy graduate added: “History tells us that we’ve not done fantastically in Europe over the past few years but Saturday was a marked improvement.

“In the past couple of years we have struggled with the change in tempo, teams and different interpretation of some rules.

“The boys fronted up, especially at the breakdown, and it’s positive, but there’s still room for improvement.”
