Alex Waller says Saints will possess an added ‘bite’ as they bid to prove a point to their fans by beating Saracens on Sunday.

Jim Mallinder’s men go into the game having suffered a shock 24-18 defeat to Exeter Chiefs at Franklin’s Gardens last week.

It was an unusually below-par performance from Saints, who fought back from 24-6 down, but who could not complete the job.

And Waller knows a victory at Allianz Park this weekend would be the perfect way to pay back the supporters who witnessed the Chiefs loss.

“The boys are confident in we know where we went wrong and we can put it right so I don’t think we’re too hyped up,” said the prop.

“Obviously you don’t want to get too emotional about stuff.

“We’ve just got to park the wrongs, learn from it and move on.

“There will be a bit of bite in the lads about last week because we want to prove to the fans we can do it, even when the big names aren’t all here.

“We proved last season we’ve got a big enough squad to go the distance and hopefully we can do that again.”

Saints and Saracens are both shorn of international players, but were able to field strong sides last weekend.

Sarries earned a 21-21 draw at Leicester Tigers and will be seeking revenge against Saints for the defeat in the Premiership final back in May.

“There’s always a history between us and Saracens,” said Waller.

“It’s always a big game for us and one we look to do well in against a top four side.

“They’re the four you want to be beating week in, week out and they’re the ones you aim to beat and the big games for the year.

“Whether it’s Saracens, Leicester, Quins, we’re looking to beat them. We’re looking to beat everyone, but you can’t win every game.”
